Thanks to a post I converted two routers today and they are running and talking to each other. Now to find some gain antennae and get one of these outside to see who it can hear. My approximate coordinates are 2200 East and 3300 South in SLC. I am open to things that work ane especially applications to run over Mesh. 73

Topic : Loading HSMM-MESH in WRT54x router running DD-WRT

I received a post yesterday and with a bit of courage I loaded up two routers and they are setup and talking to each other - now the fun begins.

I am now looking for some gain antennae so I can attempt to connect to something outside my home.  I am looking for some chat, file sharing, and other apps to shoot across the ether now.  I hope to find some keyboard to keyboard applications.  I plan to do a gateway to the Internet when I can lock it down a bit.

Thanks to the OM that posted the help and I am sure I will be asking more questions later

Go to User Documentation. Item #8 Firm Ware Installation. When you think it does not make total sense get with someone who has done it. There is one step left out. You have to disconnect the unit and then hook it up again so that youcan move forward. If there is no one in your area call me. Doug

Topic : HSMM-MESH in Utah

Greetings,

I am brand new to this having attended a recent state RACES convention where Mesh was presented.  I got really jazzed and bought 4 routers off Ebay that arrived today.  One is a WRT54G Version 3 and the other three are WRT54GS Version 1 units.  All are running DD-WRT v24 SP2.  I was ready to flash the first one with mesh using the Admin/Firmware Upgrade when I vaguely remembered that you have to do something to dd-wrt first (erase parameters?  Killer?) so I stopped and started this post.

What is needed to mesh these units?  It looks like there are 3 nodes in the SL Valley so hopefully I can connect to someone.  I plan to mount one node outside, another in the shack, and setup two for portable use in public service situation.

Any help is appreciated

Well, TeamSpeak doesn't want to release binaries for Raspberry Pi (Debian Wheezy) so I've decided to switch over to Mumble. I like the file transfer capabilities for D-RATS, so I'll keep that on-board as well. I'll also be installing Apache and setting up a basic website that will provide Mumble and D-RATS client downloads.

Make sure Wifi is turned off on your computer and that your ethernet cable is connected to any port on the WRT54GL, except the WAN port.

If you can find an old windows mobile cell phone that no longer has service, there's a free program called "Tiny Cam" I used with a Samsung Saga... sends a really good image.

Topic : Now 2 WRT54GL v1.1 with same issue

Hello, I have a similar problem with a WRT54GL same version. I flashed the device and it worked ok... I made talk to other nodes and it worked ok. But I wanted to play with the configuration. So I changed the radio mode to access point. That was before I read and article that said not to do it... Now I can't log in into the web interface... I have tried all the above solutions but nothing works for me so far. When I connect the router to my PC (windows vista) and I run the ipconfig command, I got the following results DNS-Suffix: IP-Adress: 169.254.157.114 Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 Gateway: The gateway does not work and as a result I can't log in. Anybody out there faced the same problem ? Can someone help me ? Thanks, Chris

Thanks for responding. Yes, two routers had Laptops connected, two did not. All four were on and in different rooms - about 30 feet apart. I had S/N/R but no OLSR. The Routers were donated to our ARES/RACES group by a local Business that does WIFI installs. The Routers did have a WRT load and reloaded with linksys firmware and tested before we received the routers. I have reloaded the routers three times, once from inital software from web site, then reloaded directly from the texas website by internet connect on router, no joy. Two Routers are "G's" and two are "GL's". All have stock antennas.

Hi Matt. Saw your setup at the Hamfest on Saturday. Well done! Just wondering where did you get the POE adapters? I meant to ask you when we where talking. Thanks for sharing. Eric, VA3EAM.

Greg,

Just one update to your excellent overview of MSMM-MESH operations in our area:  The URL for the York Region Amateur Radio Club has been changed to www.yrarc.org.

Anyone got a suggestion for a nice CHEAP ip camera out there?

Looking for a couple but everyone I have found online costs an arm and a leg to acquire :(

Looking at the price range of 25 dollars tops (if possible).

If I am reading the man page correct for gpsd, the port number would be 2947.

The man page can be found at:

http://gpsd.berlios.de/gpsd.html

IF (and I stress that 'if') I understand correctly, any program could then access that port on the WRT54G(s,l)

and gather that information directly if that port is opened up. Correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Any chance you could do a quick and dirty write p on exactly the steps you used to set up the

Pi?

Interested in getting one but waiting for a little because I want to get some cameras to hook up.

With the Pi being so cheap (around 35 dollars before SD card), its an interesting idea to have

everything installed on one item.

I've used the Orbit sprinkler timer box on 2 nodes. I like them because they have a plastic mounting panel. I've taken the router board out of the blue/black housing and mounted them right to the panel in the box.
