Glad to see you guys on here! we have been working with HSMM-Mesh for a while here. We have been working with VOIP lately. If there is anything we can do please let us know!

I now have 3CX and the softphones working great here using port forwarding. I had some problems along the way but I am impressed with the actual ease of setup. I did try some of the linux software and had more problems setting them up than 3CX.

Topic : Merging HSMM-MESH with another Network.

Hello I just read some guidelines from Rick Kirchhof, NG5V that said " Mesh nodes talk to other nodes using RF (wifi), to the internet over the WAN port and to computers and devices using the LAN ports". - Starting to use HSMM-MESH-

I have a scenario of tow independent networks, one is my HSMM-MESH network and the other one is my neighbor WDS network.

If I plug my neighbor WDS network into the WAN port of my HSMM-MESH router , will it be possible for me to access data and resources advertised on his on his WDS network ?

I know that it works with Internet when plugged into the WAN port of a HSMM-MESH, internet will be available to all nodes on the network. Will it be the same if the data feed is coming from another WDS or Mesh network ?

Thanks,

Chris

I am planning to put a Raspberry Pi on a portable node. I would like to know more about the Teamspeak and other services you are running. Marc

That is correct, but once I restart the router, I have the message reappearing again. So that's why I ignore it.

I believe you are now a member of that facebook group. It is sometimes difficult to determine if requestors to the group are licensed operators.

Is there a preferred enclosure for a tripod mounted node (WRT54GL and antennas)?  I've heard about the Wiligear WOE-001 die cast hingled unit and the Orbit 57095 sprinkler system timer cabinet.  Does anyone have an opinion about these products, or other possibility?

The doc mentions warning that appears, and that it can be ignored:
[Oct 19 19:17:47] WARNING[427]: db.c:57 dbinit: Unable to open Asterisk database '/var/lib/asterisk/astdb': No such file or directory

If you just do a:
   mkdir -p /var/lib/asterisk

Then that "astdb" starts getting created, and the warning goes away.   No clue what that files for (I'mbrand new to asterisk), and it's binary so nothing obvious from vi.   The code must not try to make the directory, which would yield the "unable to open" message.

The GS routers are by-far the best way to go. They have the most amount of RAM and flash space available.

Great info, guys.  Yup, you're right about the G and GL. . . not enough space.  Guess I'll have to look for a GS to play with now.  Thanks.

The doc mentions that the custom /etc/config/firewall settings may disappear.
That is why I built my own firmware to include the specified open ports. By doing it this way, I am able to get two-way audio.

So you need to open ports 5060, 5004, and 10000-20000 on the asterisk node and forward those ports to the IP address of an IP phone (if it's attached to a regular HSMM-MESH node). Opening the ports as specified in the instruction guide fixes the NAT'ing issue so you can make 2+ hour-long two-way phone calls over the HSMM-MESH network.

I'm glad you got it working!

I was able to follow the instructions and install on a WRT54GS (v1.1)!

The packages (deps + asterisk) require 2M free on /jffs partition ... So this effectively requires a WRT54GS (not G or GL).

The doc mentions that the custom /etc/config/firewall settings may disappear -- I found this to be the case whenever the mesh web UI was used to update ports/services.
However, I think you can just use the web UI to setup the ports for localnode, and then they will persist (and easier to see/self-documenting from that screen).  The web UI creates "forward" entries in /etc/config/firewall, not "accept" ...  This Was the cause of my one-way-audio issue in initial test.

Here's the setup i've tested with so far:
   VOIP Phone -> Mesh Node
   <mesh>
   Mesh Node:
       Asterisk
WAN connected to home router (DLink DI-624) LAN port.
OBI110 (ATA) connected to home router LAN port
home phone (POTS) connected to OBI

BUT, I do have an issue with "one-way audio", which (from a quick google) seems to be a common problem due to the NAT'ing ... So I'll have to work on that -- probably an issue with going through my home router?? (but's all on internal LAN, so i'd expect it to be open)
Resolved!! See earlier edit in this post.

Waiting on a POE injector to come in the mail, then I can try with a second VOIP phone on a second mesh node ...  I suspect (hope!) that the one-way audio issue is not present with a totally intra-mesh setup.

A quality VoIP is far more superior to a regular phone when international calls are concerned. So use this service to let yourself be connected to your clients.

Hi Greg. Name is Eric and callsign is VA3EAM. Wondering if you guys would be interested in continuing the MESH to the east to include Durham Region. I am in Oshawa.

I was unable to install on a GL due to limited memory of 4M -- which is the same as the G's ... I have a GS (8M flash) en route that should arrive in next day or so, and will try to install on that and report back. So you will probably get a no-space-left error when installing the libopenssl dependency package...

Very nice!  Gonna give this a try within the next couple days.  I have Asterisk running on a Raspberry Pi device now with decent success on the mesh.  Would be awesome to have it running natively on a WRT54G.  Thanks for the info.

Hey David, Nope, I haven't tried the rig control yet, but definitely on the to-do list. Before now, my focus has been on UHF and below, but this has sure peaked my interest. A week or so ago I set up my first mesh network, and this evening I did a quick overview and demo for our ARES group. I set up a netbook with a camera server in my vehicle in the parking lot, connected to a node there. Another one in the building where we were meeting, and streamed the live video on a big screen. Tons of questions and thoughts for applications! Another guy in the group brought in two more old WRT54Gs and we flashed them and had them up and meshing in a matter of minutes after the meeting. Several of the folks are excited about what we can do with the technology, and the fact that it's inexpensive and portable to set up stations is great. I frequently use fldigi (flawless on Linux), but haven't messed with flrig much. Very interested to know what you're doing with it. Thanks for the info 73, Doug, K4EK

Topic : OLSR grayed out.

I have four routers, two gl's, two g's. Loaded firmware, did all the things in the instructions. OLSR is grayed out. I do not see any of the routers in the list. I have had the routers up to 30 feet apart and as close as 10 feet. No Joy. Where do I start to troubleshoot this issue?

Are there any living breathing people on this forum?  Someone could at the very least flame me, that's better than claiming plug and play and then offering no support.

Thanks! It would be $59. + $20.25 = $79.25 shipped to my address. I'd need one at either end - perhaps I can get the used one a lot cheaper to minimize the total cost. David

Topic : WiFi AP works (internet) but no localnode access

Additional to the questions from Chris... 1) Are you using the WRT54Gv7 as a dump AP and plugging between the LAN ports of the v7 and the mesh node, or are you using the v7 as a NAT/router and plugging the WAN port of the v7 into the LAN ports of the mesh node? 2) What are you using for DNS servers on your wifi connected host/device? If you're using something other than the mesh node as your DNS server, the "localnode" name isn't going to work. Have you tried http://172.27.0.1:8080 ? If that works and "localnode..." doesn't, then you've likely got a DNS issue to resolve. If neither method works then you've probably got a layer-3 network issue to resolve. -KY9K/Brian
